S2 E14 Kids and Grief Part Two: Helping Children Navigate Grief with Dr. Mary Ruth Hackett

After listening to Part One of this two-part series, Andrea and Jennifer sit down with developmental psychologist, Dr. Mary Ruth Hackett to discuss the different elements children often face when dealing with grief and loss. Dr. Hackett shares her insight and wisdom from both a scientific aspect as well as that of being a mom about some of the different ways kids process grief compared with adults. She also gives tips about how adults can help children at different stages of the grieving process from the initial loss, the delayed effect, and how to talk about grief, loss and suffering.

Dr. Hackett is a developmental psychologist turned stay-at-home mom, podcaster, speaker, and author of Daughter by Design: Discovering Your Identity as God's Beloved Daughter. She is the host of the Phoenix Dioceses’ podcast Parenting Smarts,  which creatively weaves together developmental science, with practical application for catholic family life.  Dr. Hackett writes online regularly as a writer for Blessed is She and SpiritualDirection.com, but less regularly at her blog. She loves to speak to parenting groups, women's groups, and do online workshops. As a mother of four children aged 11-20, MaryRuth is collecting ample material and first hand experience regarding both the joys and struggles of Catholic Family Life.
